Miniature room with a view
If you love turning paper and dies into something truly magical, this project is sure to inspire you! Recently, I had the absolute joy of creating a miniature bedroom and garden scene using Eileen Hull’s Gift Box Die along with the Window Thinlits Die (product number 666979). What began as a simple idea quickly blossomed into a charming little space filled with cosy details, soft colours, and even a tiny fountain to bring the garden to life.
I wanted the design to feel warm, inviting, and slightly whimsical — a place you could almost imagine stepping into. From the pretty bedroom accents to the textured brick garden walls, every element was a delight to put together. Projects like this remind me why I love crafting so much: the freedom to build a world from scratch and watch it come together piece by piece.
Most of all, it was so much fun to make! Whether you enjoy miniature scenes, home décor projects, or simply experimenting with your dies in new ways, this creation shows just how versatile these products can be. Let me take you through how it all came together…
So, let's begin...
I cut two sets from mat board using the Gift Box Die to give the project extra strength and structure. Taking one of the mat board strips, I positioned the Window Thinlits Die just above the first score line and ran it through my Sizzix machine. Because it’s a Thinlits die, it didn’t quite cut all the way through the thicker mat board, so I carefully finished the cut with a craft knife for a clean result.
Be sure to keep the window cut-out pieces — don’t throw them away! They can be cleverly repurposed to create a charming garden path, adding both texture and detail to your miniature scene.
Step 2: I carefully trimmed around the top of the window to create a soft arch shape (as shown below). Once the main structure was assembled — feel free to message me if you’d like guidance on building it — I printed wood flooring and brick designs, then cut them to size and adhered them to the house for added realism.
You’ll notice I also incorporated several elements from the rest of the Gift Box Die to enhance the overall design. Finally, I arranged the garden path using those leftover window inserts, proving that even the smallest offcuts can be transformed into something beautiful!

Step 4: For the garden, I crafted an adorable mini fountain using mat board, moss, and hot glue — and I have to say, it turned out so cute! I also made a small planter and filled it with greenery and flowers to bring the space to life. To enhance the realistic garden feel, I scattered gravel, shells, and grasses throughout the scene.
A mirror on the wall adds a lovely decorative touch, while a ladder trellis supports climbing roses for extra charm. With some spare wire and leaves on hand, I created trailing roses around the window as well, helping to soften the structure and tie the whole garden together beautifully.
